When you are sitting on the beach there is never a bad view. The tide comes in and out, but the view is only different, neither one is better or worse than the other. High tide brings the water up close to us and carries with it untold potential treasures from some far off place beneath the water. And when the tide goes out, it leaves behind a clean slate free of footprints. It is as if the sea is welcoming us to venture forward and explore what it has deposited in the sand for us to discover.
It amazes me that while sitting in the sand, we all seem to be able to defy human nature for just a short time. We can embrace change without judging its potential outcome. We don’t choose to see an incoming tide as better than an outgoing one or vice versa. We just see it as different, not better or worse. Can you imagine what the world would be like if we could carry that same outlook with us every day and every place that we go? When something changes, or we meet someone who is different, we don’t pass judgment, we simply look at it as an opportunity for a new experience or adventure. We chose to approach it with the same childlike wonder and excitement that we feel when we walk down a pristine beach; eager to discover the treasures that the ocean has left for us to enjoy. Could we really make the whole world as great as a day at the beach?
