True success must benefit all areas of your life, if not, it is simply a tradeoff. Don’t settle for one-dimensional success. You deserve to create your own unique balance which allows you to enjoy fulfillment in all aspects of your life.
Almost all of us need to work to support ourselves and our family. But being a slave to your job, no matter how high up the corporate ladder that allows you to climb, will never replace the satisfaction and enjoyment that you are giving up in other areas of your life. Maybe you are giving up time with family and friends or foregoing activities that you enjoy, but understand that a bigger paycheck is not going to replace those aspects of your life.
We have become a society of over-achievers, possibly because there are so many toys and modern conveniences available that we want to own or maybe because we believe there is a correlation between our net worth and our value as a person. It is time to stop and truly reflect on what is important in your life, what makes you happy and what is your true definition of a successful life. Don’t wait until it is too late to live the life that you want and have the experiences that will enrich you as a person. Once you have decided what you really want from your time on this earth, set your goals and work toward the life that brings you complete happiness, fulfillment, and balance. That is your true success.
What a perfect message for this, All Saints Day! Kathy, you speak for me and I’m sure millions of other Americans who see life as a gift to be treasured and enjoyed (lived in joy) day by day no matter the circumstances rather then a race to be won.
Thank you, Pam! It is amazing just how much happiness we find when we stop racing simply for the purpose of moving forward.
