Everyone has heard sayings that boil down to you are never presented with a challenge that is more than you can handle. Many times these sayings are derived from religion or the belief that a higher being knows what you are capable of, even when you don’t and in other cases, the saying is more focused on motivation and inner strength. But after a discussion today with a very insightful lady, I caught myself thinking that this is pretty unfair. Why should those who are stronger face more adversity in life?
As we chatted, I began to think about how some people only learn from a personal experience while others can learn from watching a good example. That was when I had my “aha” moment. Not everyone has the inner strength needed to face certain challenges. But those strong souls who do, are the shining examples who are helping others to learn compassion, empathy and even a deep appreciation of what they are blessed with which they could be lacking.
This also reminded me that we all have a great deal to learn from the people in our lives. We share our stories of hardships and of success with our friends and family but do we really understand why? In some cases are we meant to help them to grow or providing them with information that will be helpful later in their journey? We might never get be granted the answer to that question, but faith in what is meant to be should be all the answer that we need.
I love your philosophy. I learn from it.
Thank you so much, Tom, for your kind words. All the best to you and your family this holiday season!
