I can’t let this day pass without a short message about a very special lady…
Today would have been my mother’s 85th birthday! Her name was Joy but not because of the date, it was because of the immense Joy that she brought to her parents. She was the tiny bundle of Joy who began to heal the aching hole in their hearts from the loss of their first child who was stillborn. I know very little about Guinevere other than the fact that her loss was almost too much for my grandmother to bear. But grandmother’s faith and will to live were renewed with her first glimpse of my mother.
Over the years I saw her in the roles of a mother, a grandmother, a wife, a friend and many more. But it was not until she was gone that I was granted one last vision that must have been much like what my grandmother saw that February 14th in 1934. I got to see Joy as she was seen by the many people who knew and loved her for the happiness and love that she brought to their lives. From ladies at her church to the teenaged boy who lived next door to her, they described to me the Joy she shared with them.
So I know that I am not the only person who is smiling and thinking of Joy today and all of the happiness that she brought to this world. But I am only one of three who was fortunate enough to know her as Mom. Thank you, Mom
