It is a joy to help the needy – guest post by GEORGE CALLEJA

Helping a needy person is a blessing. Whenever one helps a needy person, joy is experienced in one’s life. This joy is possible when one has a personal relationship with Jesus. Experiencing joy whenever serving a needy person is possible for all.

But who is the needy person? A needy person could be he who is sick and requires someone to run some errands for him. Maybe your neighbour cannot buy the necessary food for the family due to financial difficulties… and would appreciate if someone provided that food! There could be people who need to talk about their difficulties in life, and just want someone to listen to them and comfort them. Others might need to grow in their spiritual life, to understand what life is all about and to know who Jesus is.  People can have all sorts of needs.

Helping a person in need is an opportunity to love, is an opportunity to bring Jesus to the person. So how come that joy is experienced whenever helping a needy person? The secret of experiencing this joy is, that when one loves a needy person, it is Jesus that is receiving this love. The joy is the result of loving Jesus, it is the result of having a personal relationship with Jesus.

In our lives we come across many opportunities to help the needy. Each of our neighbour is in some kind of need.  Do we reach out to our neighbours?  Do we help our neighbours in their needs?Helping our neighbour in their needs is an opportunity to love, to give Jesus and to experience His joy.

Thank you George for sharing this very meaningful lesson with us!

  1. The needy could be helped in several different situations. The ones that immediately come to mind, relate to being denied the necessities of life. This could be the need for food, water to drink, clothing and shelter. The other category of need, relate to being stateless,no one to speak to or ask for help. I think these are the key issues that need to be addressed. The third category that is crucial to anyone involved, is when someone is unwell and needs some attention immediately.

    1. Hi Charles… I totally agree with you. Keep sharing your message of how to help other people. You are a blessing for many. God Bless you.
      Keeping you in my prayers.
