It is a very sad fact that many of us can get so wrapped up in everyday life, in work and in our desire to be and achieve more, that we forget to stop and appreciate all of the amazing gifts in our lives. It is often not until we have lost something and we are jarred back to a moment of reality, that we realize just how important that lost item was to our happiness. And the saddest of all occurrences is when the loss is a person and not a thing. Most things can be replaced, but each person is truly a one of a kind, and can never be replaced.
You don’t know what you have until its gone. That thought seems to be describing a huge flaw in human nature. But in just five minutes, you can change the course of the rest of your life by never having to live out that sad thought.
Stop and think about your life, what makes you happy and who is so important to you that without him or her, your life would be almost unbearable. For many of us, the first answer is our spouse, and that is closely followed by our children, other family members, and loved ones. The thought of their loss is painful, and we never want to even think about it for an instant, but really picture what your future might look like without that special person or people to share each day with.
Now try to recall the last time that you told that person or those people just how important they are to you and how loved they are. Some people are better about this than others, but very, very few of us really say it as often as we should or show our feelings and gratitude to those who deserve it the most…
If you had to think too long then use the remaining minute or two of your five minutes to tell that person or those people how important they are to you. Don’t wait until you have lost the love of your life to realize that without him or her, your life is just a plain dark canvas like a night sky without a single shining star.
And even after your realization today, don’t forget to set aside five minutes from time to time to access how well you are sharing your thoughts, gratitude, and love with the person or people who add the warm sunlight and the mesmerizingly beautiful starlight to your life.
So true, I never understood how humans has to lose what they have to discover it’s value. Our world has become so busy, many of us forgot ourselves and love ones. Five minutes, sometimes, is all it takes to change your life, then you begin to change the ones you touch.
