Sometimes it feels like the whole world is against you as you lay on the ground, ready to give up. You are certain this is your lowest point, and it cannot get any worse. That is until one more swift kick is delivered. But that kick is not meant to end you. It is to remind you that you are still alive, and you have the ability to pick yourself back up. All you need is the desire and proper motivation.
I really need these words of insight today. I received some devastating news and it put me down, emotionally, to the point I was beginning to question my abilities as a writer. We all have ups and downs in our lives. I’ve gotten plenty of rejections concerning my work, but this one completely put me off my game. I’ve been down before and I’m sure I’ll find a way to rise from the depths. Somebody KICK me hard!
Larry- Your writing is a gift, to you and to those who are fortunate enough to read it! Not everyone will be in a place to recognize and understand the quality of your work or appreciate it. But it is a known entity and has been read, praised, and enjoyed by many who are reliable and qualified to evaluate it fairly. It sounds like someone caught you in the gut with a kick that made you question yourself and your ability…the ability is there, just don’t lose your faith in yourself and your writing! No one will ever be able to take away your gift- but they can make you question what you believe in. Have faith- in yourself, in your ability and in the fact that you are on the right path and meant to be sharing your gift with the world.
For some of us, a desire sometimes isn’t enough. What about after? You will need something to sustain you after, that will allow you to keep on going until you reach your destination. For me, the desire is always there. I need a reason, a long one, a strong one, a good one. I already know the way, but a long and good reason takes you so far and keeps cushioning you until you get there. A reason will tell you why you shouldn’t give up. It will also show you what you will become if you do! Remove giving up as an option.
