I read an amazing and insightful message today, “Your value doesn’t decrease based on someone’s inability to see your worth.”
And that powerful statement saved me from making a critical mistake. I was about to reduce the rate I was charging a customer by 80% because that person did not see the value in my time and my work. But those wise words saved me from giving in and allowing the person to believe that my services were not only, not worth a fair professional rate, but that they were worth less than minimum wage.
My take away for the day… don’t ever allow someone to make you question your worth or the value of your work. Today, I would rather not get paid and still have my dignity and self-respect intact. Tomorrow is another day and another dollar, but if I give up on myself and the value of my work, it is gone forever.
Good advice. When I had a craft business I had someone ask me if I would sell him 5 of my dolls at a discount. I said “no” because each one was made by hand and took just as long as the next one. He kept coming back during the day basically telling me that what he offered would be more than I would get if I didn’t sell them all. Surprise! I sold all of them separately and didn’t lower the value of my work. Thanks for sharing, Kathy.
I agree. As a writer , I was offered a contract that made me feel stupid, desperate and hungry. I walked away because I was none of the above. I knew me more than they did. Turns out they were the ones who were desperate, hungry and stupid.
