It is truly amazing how something so simple can make you stop and think for a moment if you are just willing to let the sound, sight, or event really reach you. In today’s ultra-busy world, we often try to block out the sounds and distractions of our everyday world. But they can lead to some very profound moments of gratitude.
As I am sitting at my desk working on a Friday midmorning, I notice that I hear a siren, which isn’t that unusual. But as I listen for a few more seconds, I realize that I am hearing nearly half a dozen sirens converging somewhere near me. My next thought is that someone’s Friday is likely to be life-altering if not life ending! But I hope that the emergency services are over-estimating the need for multiple trucks to respond to what must be an accident nearby.
I have gotten one of those calls when a loved one was involved in a serious accident. It is an event that will cause your entire world to stop rotating. And as expected, everything feels like it is floating away from you. You have no real control over the situation or even any really helpful information. You must simply have faith, in whatever brings you comfort.
So that sound today that found its way to me as I was working was a reminder to be thankful for what I have and what I am not being asked to endure. On days that are not perfect or even remotely close, we all have things that we need to be thankful for and realize that there are others who are facing much greater battles. Never get too busy for gratitude in every day of your life!
Dearest Kathy, I am so thankful for you, for all your daily messages that come at just the right time, every day, whether or not I am able to respond to each one as I’d like to with the gratitude I feel for your generosity in writing and sharing them. In time I will, but know for now just how much I appreciate you!!!! xxxooo
You and I are on the same wave length. Being 75 years old I have lifetime friends dying. It does give one a minute or two to sit and think about the loss of a friend or dear one. Yet as time goes on things keep happening to remind of this person or that person or even oh yeah that reminds me of him or her. Memories are generally great healers and comforters.
Yes, I enjoyed your wonderful post
