The ocean covers about 70% of the earth’s surface, leaving only 30% for land. And of that nearly three-quarters of the earth that is our ocean, we have only explored a minute 5%! What that really means is that we have barely scratched the surface of what is our earth. So what does this have to do with your mind you ask…
Life is so busy and crammed with activities that few people really take the time to think, imagine, and let their mind wander. We have work, family, friends, and activities that keep us occupied and focus our thoughts on specific topics. But what else is in that vast unexplored part of your mind that is your imagination? Think back to what childhood was like 40 years ago, when we didn’t have 300 television channels, video games, and the Internet to answer every question before we had time to ponder an answer or invent our own solution. Kids occupied the entire summer with made up games and pretend activities. And not only did they enjoy it, but they learned from it. They learned to imagine possibilities and believe in what they were thinking and imagining.
I recently read a thought that a dear friend wrote and it has been spinning around in my head for several days now. “In a boat, you can go from here to anywhere in the world.” She was sitting along a waterway in Michigan at the time. This thought made me really ponder the deeper meaning. It sounds so simple and yet also so profound. And it also made me realize that each of us can go anywhere in the world, and even beyond, using our imagination. But most of us only use just that tiny 5% fraction and never take full advantage of the true joy we can find within our own thoughts, dreams, and imagination.
It is in your own imagination that you create your dreams and hopes for the future. And that is also the first step in realizing your hopes and dreams. So invest some time in letting your mind wander and contemplate what it is that will make you truly happy in this world, and then begin to achieve it!
Here! Here! As a writer of fiction I always live in the land of my own imagination. I can go anywhere, do anything, make my characters behave good or bad, love, kill, manipulate, steal, beg, borrow, steal, save humanity, and most of all be human! Only 5%? I’d better get to using a few more brain cells!
I have an overactive imagination, so I don’t use 5 % of my brain, I think. Lol. I agree, there is so much out there that is unexplored. Before all this technology, we had to use our brain. Now we have to use our brain more to learn and use this technology, yet many of us brains need more exercise. It’s actually not being use the right way, to do the right things.
