It is not very often that you hear of a teenager who wants to give up some of his or her relaxing summertime to work. And it is even rarer when that work is actually volunteering rather than earning money for gas or entertainment. But that is exactly what Hunter has chosen to do with his summer. He is working on his Eagle Scout Project which will benefit the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.
Hunter has decided to focus on collecting bottled water, which will be distributed to the over 800 homeless people that this organization serves each day. According to the Mayo Clinic, the average woman should consume 2.7 liters of water and the average man needs 3.7 to remain hydrated. That translates to almost 6 bottles of water for ladies and about 8 bottles for men. And with 800 people visiting the shelters and dining rooms, SVDP needs 5600 bottles of water each day! This is a huge amount of water and a huge responsibility, but it can mean the difference between life and death for some of our fellow community members.
Here Is How YOU Can Help Hunter
As we mentioned, Hunter lives in Gilbert, AZ and is collecting water in his neighborhood (Coronado Ranch) on Saturday, June 29th and Saturday, July 13th. So you can contact him at 480-734-0621 if you live in the area and would like to have him pick up your donation. You can also drop off your donation at his home at 3454 E. Fruitvale Avenue. BUT, if you are not in the area or don’t have time to pick up a few cases of water to support Hunter and our neighbors in need, you can still contribute cash and Hunter will do the shopping for you.

As we drive around in air-conditioned cars and relax in our air-conditioned homes, it is very easy to forget that there are thousands of people in our community who are homeless and are struggling to survive in the 100 degrees plus heat in Arizona. These are people who once might have been living down the street from you but have fallen on hard times. These are the elderly who have nowhere to go and families with children who are just trying to get back on their feet. And the good people at SVDP are opening their doors to these people and providing much-needed meals and water.
Hunter set a goal of providing 100 cases of water to SVDP, but with everyone’s help, he can pass that goal and help even more homeless people this summer.
Please take just a moment to send a few dollars to Hunter. Just $3.50 can buy 40 bottles of water that would meet the needs of a homeless couple for almost three full days.
