Each day we are bombarded with reminders to have a plan for the future. This includes having the savings we need, as well as dreams of what we want to achieve and where we want to go. And while these are important aspects of life, it is also important to be mindful of the things that are right here in the moment.
Planning for retirement, saving for a rainy day, and simply earning as much as possible seems to be the current mindset. And while it is true that we will all need a certain amount of money for that time after our working years have drawn to a close, be sure that you are not forfeiting a life of happiness and satisfaction now for a time that might never arrive. Sure, we all want to enjoy the golden years, but you will never again have the opportunity to spend today with your children. They will grow and change in each day that you are too focused on work to notice these tiny advances. Then suddenly, they will be adults, and the opportunity will be lost.
Your dream for your retirement might be to wake up each morning and look out the window to see the sun rise above the sand and surf of the tropical paradise that you call your home. But don’t forget that there is a magnificent sunrise each day, you just miss it when you are sitting in your office long before sunrise each day. And that same gorgeous sunset happens everywhere in the world, but working late robs you of seeing its beauty.
Take time for happiness, love, and experiences now while you have the opportunity. Set a goal for each day and be as dedicated to reaching it as you are the long term goals that will shape the latter years of your life. By doing so, you will find that when you reach those years of relaxation and free time, you will have a wealth of happy memories to enjoy as well as your hopes and dreams for the future.
Kathy, this is yet another amazing post. You have such a deep, deep wisdom and rare insight into what happiness truly means in this lifetime and especially at this time in history when we are so divided against each other and for what?!? I think you are a prophet!!! All those who care for you, loved you and taught you by their example are living in you, with you and through you to inspire you to create these reminders we all need to read, hear and digest. Thank you for your persistence, patience and passion for writing that gets better and better each time I read something you write from both the mind and the heart. xxxooo
Oh Pam, you are far too kind! But I truly appreciate your words of encouragement as I know they come directly from your heart. It is thanks to the like minded group of amazing people like you who visit See The Good, that we are making progress in reminding those around us to not only see the good but also to share it with others and to be the good in other people’s day. We are each gifted the day to leave our mark on those around us and the world, but we must choose if that impression will be good or bad. Thank you for being one of the wonderful shining stars who continue to provide light and guidance to those who are searching to find their own way. Your kindness quickly becomes exponential as those you touch reach out to help others in need. K
