Who Is Your Muse?

We are all writers in one sense or another, as we are each writing our own story. And the inspiration for our story comes from many different sources, including one which is often thought to only be a part of the world inhabited by the most gifted of the literary world. But the truth is that we all have our own muses, those who become a source of inspiration and a driving force in our story and our life.

I have been very fortunate to have many wonderful people in my life who inspire me and even a few who were, and are, muses in the truest sense of the word. These few special relationships have not only served to inspire and motivate me when I am feeling lost or abandoned by my creative juices, but they have also provided me with the safe haven that I needed from time to time as I questioned my ability to fashion even the most basic of stories or sentences. They have cheered me on in the days of bright sunlight and success and consoled my bruised ego and encouraged me to sharpen my pencil and get back to work on the darkest of days.

We all have them, we all need them, and at times we all must become one for someone in need. When you find your muse, appreciate the gift and absorb the support and encouragement. When you find yourself the muse, appreciate the impact and gravity that you have over the path of another’s life and use it wisely. And most of all, never forget to thank that person who is your inspiration. Share your thoughts and words so that he or she might also benefit from this symbiotic relationship.

And with that thought, Janet, may you somehow grasp all that you brought to my world as another person who loves words. And Pam, I can’t begin to explain how much you have helped me to grow, and how much you mean to me. I am sure that without you two amazing ladies, I would not be where I am today, nor would I be enjoying the success that I am. Thank you both for being the candle that burned bright for me when I needed to find my path through the darkness of self-doubt and lack of motivation!

  1. I tend to learn from the lives, actions, decisions, mistakes, pain, happiness and sorrow of everyone I meet and know. Everyone is my muse. My life is a hard and painful one, so I can’t just learn from a few. All the bad things that are done to me, and all the good things, I learn from each action and each personality. I thank everyone, including the bad ones. Many of us tend to focus only on the good, yet for some of us, it is the bad deed or actions that were done to us, that often push us in the right direction that changed our lives for good.
