I can’t allow today to slip past without taking a moment that think about and thank my Grandpa for all that he did for me and our entire family. He was born on August 13, 1901, and would proudly tell anyone who would listen that he came halfway around the world to find his Sweetie, as he called Grandma.
I could not have asked for more loving, caring and supportive grandparents. They spoiled me and all of the kids rotten as doting grandparents often do, but they also made sure to teach us many important lessons about life and what is really important in this world.
I can’t believe that it has been 46 years since I last saw you and held your hand Grandpa. But you will never be forgotten. Your love and the way that you lived your life taught me lessons that were far too complex for a child of 5 to understand. But I have spent a lifetime remembering those times and learning from your example. And now your words of wisdom have been passed on to the next generation and are carried in the heart of the young man who shares your name.
Kathy, what an amazing person he was, your grandpa, and he must be looking down on you and your dear son, his great-grandson, with such love and pride. You both are carrying on the values and character traits he taught by his example. And now you are sharing them daily through your wonderful See the Good posts. We all stand on the shoulders of giants who survived and thrived in spite of so many challenges to enable us to be born into life on Earth. Today, we are all facing new and different challenges, but the qualities of character it will take to overcome them, move through them with grace, dignity and grit, are timeless and universal. These are what you are writing about and sharing that we all need to be reminded of daily, as our daily “bread of life.” Happy Birthday to Grandpa, with gratitude, respect and love.
