There are some thoughts that you will never hear a dying person utter…
-I wish I had spent more time at work.
-I focused too much time on my children when they were young.
-I wish I had not been so forgiving.
-I should have traveled less.
-I wasted so much time reading books.
-I should never have followed my dreams.
Sadly, this list goes on and on, as does the list of things that people wish they had done during their lifetime. But when you feel yourself nearing the end, there is little time to make up for these choices and mistakes.
However, these thoughts and wishes of others can have a purpose if we choose to listen to their advice. Take a few moments to think of your life, ambitions, hopes, and dreams. Think about the way you have treated others and the expectations that you held for yourself and your life. Then apply the wisdom of those who had no more time to fix their own mistakes to your life.
-Spend time with your loved ones.
-Enjoy every last vacation day that you earn.
-Travel if that is what brings you joy.
-Push yourself and stretch to reach your goals and make your dreams your reality.
-Make time to do the things that you enjoy because you deserve happiness.
Your timing with this post is amazing as I was asked just yesterday by his wife to write the obituary of one of the most successful and philanthropic individuals in our community. This gives me more ideas about how to frame some of my questions when I meet with her later today, as this gentleman is too ill to be interviewed. Bless you, Kathy, once again. I don’t know how you do this, but you do, and I am the grateful recipient of your genius and generosity.
Thank you, Pam, for your inspiration, motivation and amazing friendship!
Lovely. Some of us have a bad life and end up living a worst one. Others have a bad one but live a good one. Live a good life, then you will have the least regrets. There is no life without regrets.
