Love And Live With All Your Heart – Guest Post By AMY TEMPLE

October 25th would have been my paternal grandmother’s birthday.

Grandma was your typical grandmother. She knitted. She baked.  She loved taking care of kids.

Grandma loved having her family around, too. If we made plans to meet for a meal… Grandma always wanted to cook!   She loved having the family gathered around the table.  And they were not measly meals either!  Each time we would go home full!

One of the most amazing things about Grandma was that she could strike up a conversation with anyone. Everyone was her friend.  It didn’t matter what they looked like.

Grandma was one of my biggest fans when it came to my writing.  She would always want me to write to her and if a little bit of time would go by, Grandma would call and ask “Where’s my letter?”.  She even asked for my help in submitting a story to a magazine that was later published.  She was always encouraging me to pursue a career as a writer.

When Grandma was diagnosed with cancer I would often go visit to check up on her because she opted for home care.  She was a fighter.  She was not going to allow the disease to win.

Unfortunately… Grandma lost.   I was by her side that day, stroking her hair.  As sad as it was, I am honored and grateful to have been there.

I was able to say goodbye to a woman who loved and lived with all her heart.

Happy birthday, Grandma.

I love you and I miss you.
