Let It Go – A Guest Post By AMY TEMPLE

Rest.   It is so important that we do this.

But so many of us are rushing here and there to accomplish something as if the fate of the whole world lies on us.

We become so anxious when we have distractions.  We want complete silence. But it is totally unreasonable to expect this. Life doesn’t stop just so we can get our work done.

Personally I do most of my work on my mobile phone in my living room during the day because I really don’t want to do any work at night.  Yet my family has their own lives to live and they are moving about, doing whatever.  Often they talk to each other which is perfectly all right because it’s their house too.   Of course, they are respectful about my time and do their best to not disturb me but sometimes things happen.

I do my best not to get frustrated because I know I have no say in what goes on.  And every once in awhile I will have to stop what I am doing and go do something else.  I try to remind myself that I have to be flexible.  I may have to do some work at night and that’s all right.

It’s not about me.  It’s not about you.

It’s about us coming to realize that we have absolutely no control over anything.

We have to go with the flow or we are going to go nuts.

So let’s just settle down and not get so upset because it’s just a complete waste of time.

  1. Amy – this post pushes my buttons! In a good way! I’m guilty of this constantly. When I’m in a full blown writing mode, I want nothing else, but to do what I like to do–write! As you’ve so visibly stated “Life get’s in the way and we need to be more flexible”. Many thanks for reminding me of this very human endeavor.

  2. So true, we drive ourselves crazy doing too much. I do too much sometimes, but I learn to manage my time efficiently and economically. I really do know how to economize my time. It takes extensive planning and coordinating to do that. Going with the flow doesn’t work well for all of us.
