Have you ever noticed that the universe seems to answer our questions for us and force us to rethink what we were sure we knew? Life is nothing more than a long series of changes. And there are no promises or guarantees about where your journey will take you. So how could you ever say never about anything and know that you are correct?
If you ask most homeless people you come across on the streets of your town, they will tell you that they “never” expected to be homeless.
If you go into an oncology ward in your local hospital, most patients will tell you that they “never” imagined that they would have cancer.
If you spend some time with a young widow or widower, most will say that they “never” expected to lose their spouse at a young age.
The old saying is, “Never say never.” But the truth is that change occurs and we don’t control all of the aspects of our lives. Many of your “nevers” could come true. And the critical thing to remember is that you will find a way to make it through those most challenging times in your life that you never wanted to experience. Some will rely on faith, others rely on the support of loved ones, and some will simply refuse to give up. But they will all make it.
So the next time you are tempted to say something will never happen, consider saying that you hope it does not occur. And then be thankful for the position that you are currently in and respectful and compassionate for others who might be living their “never” moment at that very second.
Life will continue to change, and fearing the worst will only lessen your enjoyment of the good moments. Be thankful, appreciative, and content with your immediate point on your journey. And have confidence in your ability to persevere through whatever else awaits you in the future.
Kathy, you are so wise, and your timing is—once again—perfect. Thank you for this “keeper” post. I’m not sure how you do it, but you do, and I am most grateful. xxxxoooo
True, the universe has all the answers, and with patience and foresight, we will get it. Life is very unpredictable and ‘never’ can be the best thing for many of us, and the worst things for others. ‘Never’ comes with reasons, and some times it gives us choices. Never can also be a powerful tool in the hands of the wise and a dangerous weapon in the hand of a fool.
