As I have gotten older, it has become more apparent to me that many of our holidays have been trivialized by commercialism. We feel so much stress and anxiety about creating the perfect mood, preparing the right foods, and purchasing the best gifts. And somewhere in all of these preparations and worry, we forget about the meaning or significance of the day.
As we celebrate Easter today, the first significant holiday during the pandemic of 2020, I wonder if this might be the moment when we begin to revert back to focusing on the meaning of holidays, the simple enjoyment of time spent with family, and a return to a less commercial celebration.
We certainly didn’t choose to be sequestered at home today. And our limited shopping was necessitated by an outside force. But, could this all be part of a very important lesson that society needed to relearn?
Yes, indeed, Kathy, your pondering about this day and the circumstances we all find ourselves in are the same as mine. I have a feeling many other thousands if not millions of Americans and people from around the world are wondering the same things. While our financial and material needs are important, our spiritual lives are a higher priority and must be aligned with the Higher Power many of us call God who created us out of love and for love. We are not self made; however, we are co-creators, not ultimately in charge other than by the choices we make throughout our days that either align with God’s plan and purposes for Creation or not. May today be a day of quiet reflection on who we are, why we are here, where we have come from and where we are going. Let there be peace, joy and love in the world and let them begin with me and thee!!!!!xxxxoooo
