Think back to your childhood and being punished for something that you did wrong. How many times were you told to go to your room and just think about what you did and why it was wrong?
Over the past year, we have all spent some time in what might have felt like an adult time-out. And many of us have given a lot of thought to our actions, lives, and plans for the future. It has been a time of extensive introspection and hopefully growth.
Two years ago, most of us were taking so much for granted. We thought of going to the grocery store as a chore. But over the last year, a trip to the store became a significant event, especially if you could buy the items you needed or wanted.
Two years ago, we went to bed on Sunday night, dreading the drive to work the following morning. Now, what would you give for a “normal” daily commute?
Two Christmases ago, you might have been stressed about finding time to attend holiday parties, shop for gifts, and visit everyone in your family. What would you have given last Christmas to be facing those same challenges?
Two years ago, you thought that you had plenty of time to travel. What would you give to be planning a trip to the beach, your favorite city, or a meaningful destination for this summer’s vacation?
Two years ago, you thought you had forever to catch up with that old friend or family member you had not seen in years. But somehow, that person is suddenly gone. What would you give to have just one more chance to say all the things that you never made time to say? What would you give for just one more opportunity to hug that person?
If the last year has taught us anything, it should be that there is no time like the present. Treasure each moment, person, and memory that you are fortunate enough to have. And take every opportunity you can to make new memories, share your feelings, and simply absorb the experience of sharing time with those who mean the most to you.
Tomorrow will always come. But you have no idea who will be here to witness it and how the day will unfold. Do today, what is too important to wait until tomorrow.
