As a parent, there is nothing worse than the thought of your child facing a serious health crisis. Your job is to care for this tiny person, this piece of you that is everything good in your heart and soul. No parent hesitates for a second to utter the words, please take me, just not my child. Every parent would gladly say goodbye and exhale that one last breath knowing their child will live on and continue their legacy. With all of our hearts, we believe that the world will be far better off with our child alive to bring smiles, joy, and laughter into the world.
Unfortunately, that is not the way that it works. We have no bargaining chip. We do not have a say in mercy, divine intervention, or the course of universal justice. Our only piece in this puzzle is to love enough to let go of our most basic instinct of parental responsibility. No four-word phrase is more difficult for a parent to utter. Nothing is more painful yet filled with as much hope and desire. Thy will be done.
I can’t imagine the weight of these words where my son is concerned. I doubt my strength and faith would allow me to utter them. But I ask for your prays for the parents who are searching their hearts and souls to find a way to “fix” the aggressive cancer that has invaded their 8-year-old daughter. Please keep them and Mila in your prayers for strength, her healing, and many, many years for her to bring smiles and happiness to the world.
Prayers for your child and family.
