Why Do I Write?

As occurs with many of the See The Good posts, the inspiration came from my dear friend Pam. And while her thought was focused on a specific comment, my brain zeroed in on a more specific question, why do I write? Maybe the answer to this question holds no significance for you. But the reflection offered me a multitude of answers and some that I really didn’t expect.

My final thought was that each one of us has something that we do that might seem mundane from the outside looking in. But it is an essential part of our being. It fuels our mind, heart, and soul. It is as involuntary as breathing and as necessary the air we breathe or the food and water we consume. And it should never matter what others think of our dedication to this indulgence because it is our lifeline, tether, or muse. However you choose to see it, and whatever you call it, it is yours. And its purpose is to sustain you. That is all that it must do or be, to exist in a state of perfection, not to be judged by others.

This week I am sharing the answers to my why question. I hope others will help inspire this reflection by adding their why questions and responses in the daily comments section. Happy pondering. And again, thank you, Pam, for yet another thought-provoking conversation!

MONDAY-

I write because today’s passing thought or idea could be tomorrow’s solution or motivation.

  1. What a happy surprise to read your post this morning, Dear Kathy!!!! I love where you’re going with this important question, “Why?” as a new question every day of this first week after Easter especially, a time to reflect and refresh, and a time of renewal and even rebirth. I LOVE your first one here for Monday that what I think about and capture in written words on paper can well be the very birth of something new, something that builds on a previous thought or insight. Today, as I begin this new week, I will review my “to-do” list and ask myself, as I focus on what motivates me to spend time and effort on each one, “Why am I doing this? Is this really important to me, to someone I love or a cause I love and care about and if so, why?”
