Change…

old stone wheel Change can be a good thing. Think of the changes you undergo on your journey as a means of honing the person who you are becoming. In my youth, I was quiet but with a well concealed wild side. I would act now and think later which often resulted in a somewhat negative outcome. In addition, I turned out to be a very slow learner when it came to learning from others. For some odd reason, I preferred to have my own scars and wounds to prove that I had learned a lesson on my own terms.

But those lessons served as the grinding stone which helped to shave off many of the rough edges that defined my younger self. In my younger days, I felt as though progress was slow and required a great deal of energy. It was as if I was a square wheel working feverishly to turn on an axle to propel myself forward. But slowly, very slowly, my steep learning curve served to smooth off the sharp corners of my personality, my tongue, and my spirit.

Finally, I was more suited to the life that I desired and was able to move forward with ease in comparison to my youthful but very pointed self. There are still bumps in the road, but as a more rounded person, these bumps slow my progress, but they do not stop me cold in my tracks as they did when I had the sharp right angles of a square wheel. Not all changes will be exactly what you want, or even anything like you want, but they all have a purpose, and they are all necessary to the process of revealing who you are to become and where your journey will take you. Have faith in yourself, in the process and in your journey as it unfolds before you.

  1. I think we all have to learn and grow from our own experiences. There are some things that we can learn from others, but life has many lessons to teach all of us. Just as you said, it’s what smooths off the rough edges and helps us soften our approach to life. Mellowing over the years is a part of this beautiful journey we are all on. Well written and I look forward to reading more. 🙂
