When my father passed, we placed a bench in his favorite state park as a memorial. It overlooks a small stream and is surrounded by massive trees. At some point, he learned the very important lesson that there is so much serenity to be found when surrounded by nature. It is a pure connection to the world that has been displaced by electronics, multitasking and the desire to always accomplish more. He knew that just being is often times just enough. It was a spot that he loved and now it is a place that those of us who love him can visit to “see through his eyes” for a moment. I hope that every person who has stopped there to rest for a moment has also been enlightened and rejuvenated seeing that tiny slice of the world from one of Clyde’s favorite spots.
A good piece of art, keep going
Lovely, Kathy, simply lovely, and very, very wise advice!
Sounds like a beautiful place, the kind of place I love to sit. I love the peace of quiet parks, streams, lakes, ponds. I think we all need places like that to escape to from time to time. The sad thing is that most people do not realize this and continue on in the frenzy of life with no time to be restored. Then they wonder why they wear out and wear down and become overburdened with life. I have read that taking a walk through nature like this is like detoxing. I am fortunate that I live in a city nicknamed the “Forest City” because of the huge number of trees we have. We also have some wonderful parks. It’s great to escape the noise of the city for the serenity of nature. Thanks for sharing how you have made it easier for some to sit and take time to meditate and enjoy what nature can give us.
Very true about the benefits of spending time in nature. The Business Insider ran an article about the benefits of being outdoors. https://www.businessinsider.com/scientific-benefits-of-nature-outdoors-2016-4
And I think that there are actually far more benefits that have yet to be discovered.
As I get older, I see the world so differently from when I was young. This is a lovely tribute.
Thank you Karen- like fine wine, life gets better with age! You just need to choose to see it that way. Thank you for your comment!
