The Critical Balancing Act

For most of us, each day is a long blur of activities, responsibility, and deadlines which consume us. The goal is survival and crossing off as many items on an ever-growing to-do list as possible. As a result, the aspects of life that are most often neglected are the moments of personal connection with those who are most important to our us. We all assume that friends and family are equally as busy and will understand.  And fortunately, in most cases they do, but the result is still a loss for both you and those close to you.

Work and the obligations of the adult world are important but so are the people who bring happiness, joy, and love to your life. And more important is the fact that you deserve to experience these moments and share them with loved ones. No one spends their last few moments on earth wishing that they had worked just a few more hours instead of attending a child’s school play or sharing quiet moments in the arms of a soulmate while watching the sunset.

We all know that one of the most important aspects of our lives and our happiness revolves around loved ones and the moments we share with them. But it can be difficult to remember that these moments will not happen if we don’t make them happen. It is finding that balance and establishing the rules to maintain your life balance that will actually help you to be more productive and successful in all aspects of your life.

In the business world, we show value by scheduling time for important meetings or to work on projects. Then we make an effort to arrive on time and well prepared for the task at hand. This same importance needs to apply to the people and the personal relationships in our lives. Block off time for sharing a meal, making a phone call or for a visit. Not only will you be able to reconnect with the people who mean the most to you, but you will also be more efficient as you complete your work tasks because you have that “reward” time coming when your work time is done.

  1. Good morning. I agree, the condition of our world today, everyone seems to be so busy. The most important things are pushed aside to make a bigger space for profit. Money has become more important than people. What many have failed to realized, that people gives money it’s value. Without people to spend that money, its crippled. Family is the most valuable asset many of us have. We must find the time, and a way to keep and protect our family life. Because, at the end of the day, our family is all some of us have left.
